"We are intent on re-telling the [Turtles] origin, as it was in Batman, as it was in Superman, frankly as it was in Spider-Man, to tell the origin story," poducer Scott Mednick told Mania.com"We have an entire new generation of fans who really don't know the full back story.  As great as the [2007 animated film 'TMNT'] was, my son said, 'how come a rat is their father?' You know? Because he wasn't around for the 1990 version."

According to Mania, the new TMNT live action movie will be darker than before.

Of course the Jim Henson version of the Turtles was brilliant, and my worry is that the new movie will be too CGI for my tastes.  But according to Mednick they are going to use Jim Henson's creature shop and only use the CGI to enhance the faces.
