Empire of the Ants

A new BBC story reminded me of an old 1970s sci-fi  movie.  The BBC reports that "A single mega-colony of ants has colonised much of the world, scientists have discovered. Argentine ants living in vast numbers across Europe, the US and Japan belong to the same inter-related colony, and will refuse to fight one another. The colony may be the largest of its type ever known for any insect species, and could rival humans in the scale of its world domination. What's more, people are unwittingly helping the mega-colony stick together. [emphasis added]"

This is similar to the plot of the 1977 "Empire of the Ants" based on the book by H.G. Wells.  Except in the movie the Ants enormous.

Read H.G. Wells'  The Empire of the Ants and Other Stories.

And watch the trailer for the laughable 1970s movie below.
